Compelling Powers

Clark Moustakas describes compelling powers as a magic energy that facilitates bonds between teacher and students which connect them and enhance learning regardless of prior conditioning.

To facilitate change in the learner, the teahcer must:

  1. Challenge learners

  2. Teacher must approach learner as a unique individual

  3. Value individual, avoid comparing with peers

  4. Wholeheartedly believe every learner possesses a “core of goodness” (Moustakas in O’Hara p.147)

  5. Appeal to the inner goodness and innocence in each individual learner.
