Ethic of Care

A caring ethic involves removing barriers between the teacher and the learner, and from there, meeting on a level of authenticity and genuineness. A caring ethic occurs when the one-caring fully receives the one-cared-for. For example, the one-caring must accept the issues and trials the one-care-for presents, and with that enables the one-cared-for to be able to care for others.

Care according to Nel Noddings: “a special relationship...the one-caring and the one-cared for...The caring process serves both the self and the other individual...The one-caring makes it safe for learners in new and difficult situations...The cared-for individual must be able to trust the one-caring.” (O’Hara, p. 49)

Created by Dr. O'Hara's EDU 207 class of fall 2015. Included are the concepts deemed important by the class.
